Samsung Mobile Installs 20 New Redesigned Mobile Charging Stations
at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport to Help Travelers Recharge Mobile Phones, Laptops and Other Electronic Devices for FREE
DALLAS – June 29, 2011 – Samsung Telecommunications America (Samsung Mobile)1, the No.1 mobile phone provider in the U.S., today announced the installation of 20 newly designed charging stations in all of the terminals at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). DCA is the first airport to install the redesigned charging stations for travelers to conveniently charge their mobile phones, laptops and other personal electronics for free. JCDecaux, the world’s largest out-of-home advertising company, manages the advertising concession at DCA and partnered with Samsung to implement the redesigned charging stations. Additionally, there are also more than 40 charging stations at Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD).

The redesigned Samsung Mobile charging stations include six electrical outlets compatible for U.S. voltage (i.e., 120 volts), two USB charging outlets, four micro USB mobile phone charging plugs and a touchscreen display that provides travelers with informational content including news, weather and flight information. The display also features a “What’s New” tab for users to learn more about Samsung Mobile’s latest products. The charging stations are also equipped with a small shelf to hold travelers mobile phones and other electronic devices.

The quality is very good. Fit and finish was very good with excellent quality components. I like the all black design. And it has a really solid, high quality feel. But with that being said, it's weight to some could be a bit much for a tablet, it is a bit on the heavy side. And for the rear cover, they used a soft black finish. If you are one who likes to keep their device clean, it will be more difficult to wipe off the fingerprints.
As far as design goes, the front is all glass, and same bezel on the sides. There are small volume up and down buttons on the top left corner. The power button I found in an odd place, on the back next to the speakers, rear camera sensor and flash. Although it usually did not get accidentally pushed at that location, so I guess it is in a good location. To the left of the 5 MP is a dual LED flash. The 10.1" 16x9 format screen is awesome, and I much prefer that format screen over the one on the iPad.
The hardware and software it comes with is also top. Software comes in the form of Android Honeycomb 3.1, which was specifically optimized for tablets. As previously mentioned, the screen is a 10.1. And the power under the hood is the NVDIA Dual-core Tegra 2 processor running at 1GHz. It has been getting a lot of buzz, and for good reason. There is a 32 GB hard drive for plenty of storage, and the model provided has a built-in radio of Verizon's network. That means it works like a cell phone as far as being able to go online while you are on the go.
Motorola seems to have done a good design job. They also picked some great components. Now it's time to see how well it all comes together.
The Android 3.1 OS was fun to work with. Moving between screens and adding widgets and customizing it was pretty simple. The capacitive screen was nice and responsive. The screen was also pleasant to look at, even at off angles. Colors were well saturated with good resolution and contrast. Games looked great on it with excellent colors. Video also looked very good on it, with great resolution. I was surprised at how artifact free the images were. Shadow detail was even pretty good. I wasn't expecting a lot from the built in speakers. And they delivered about the sound I was expecting. Resolution was ok, and the sound was fairly full, with little low end extension. But what else would you expect from a pair of small speakers built into a tablet. And there is one critical word to remember when it comes to audio: headphones. Yes, there is an included headphone jack. Remember the built-in speakers were designed for personal use, at lower volumes. So do yourself a favor and don't blow the speakers. When you feel like rocking out, throw on some headphones, then turn up the volume. And it sounds a whole lot better!
The built in 5MP camera also worked very well. I was pleased with the sharpness for a 5MP sensor. And the included software worked very well, and provided a lot of tweaks. You can even zoom in up to a 8x. Although the more you zoom in, the more pixelation you get. Using it as a camcorder also provided good resolution, and fairly natural colors. The dual LED light was actually pretty bright, and you could also turn it on to use with the camcorder functionality. The sensor however did give better images in well lit surroundings. All in all, I was pleased with it's camera performance.
In the end, the built-in Tegra 2 processor handled everything I threw very well. And Angry Birds looked great! However, I was a little surprised when I had a coulpe of minor glitches in the display with a couple of flickers when playing Angry Birds. The thinner Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 with the same processor worked similarly well, but was glitch free. I wasn't too concerned though, as any computer device can do that. The Motorola Xoom was a lot of fun to do everything on. Photos, Videos, games, music, web surfing, The Motorola Xoom did it all great.
Motorola built a great product in the Motorola Xoom. It truly was a pleasure to use, and the built-in wireless through Verizon just made it more functional. And the Built-in Hardware is actually powerful enough to handle just about anything you throw at it. Statement of financial position 2010: Sennheiser achieves record turnover
Sennheiser Group's turnover has increased by 20.1 percent
Strong market growth in all sales regions
Wedemark, Germany -- June 23, 2011 – Sennheiser electronic GmbH & Co. KG published its financial statement for the business year 2010, reporting an increased turnover of 468.2 million Euros, compared to 389.9 million Euros last year. This corresponds to an increase of 20.1 percent and is the largest turnover in the company's history. Profit increased from 3.8 million Euros (in 2009) to 22.6 million Euros.
"All product groups and all markets have contributed to this positive result," said Volker Bartels, Spokesperson of Sennheiser's Executive Management Board. "One of the important factors that contributed to this result was the revival of the professional side of our business and the highly positive growth at the end of the year, particularly in the consumer segment. Now we have to stabilize this dynamic growth and further expand our business.” On average in the year 2010, the Sennheiser Group employed 2,117 people, 1,153 of them in Germany.

Consumer business remains the product sector with the highest turnover
The largest part of the company's turnover came from headphone sales, which contributed 34.9 percent of total turnover. Following this was wireless microphone sales (25.5 percent), then Sennheiser communications products (8.1 percent) and then wired microphones (7.4 percent). Audiology products made up 6.6 percent of the total turnover and professional headsets made up 4.5 percent. Georg Neumann GmbH contributed 3.6 percent of the total turnover with studio microphones and studio monitors. The conference and information systems sector contributed 3.3 percent.
Despite a global shortage of electronic components, Sennheiser was able to increase production in 2010, thereby overcoming the immediate effects of the global economic and financial crisis.

Strong gains in Asia, the Americas and Central Europe
Thanks to market growth, Sennheiser managed to reach double-digit figures for its growth rate in all sales regions in 2010. In particular, Asia influenced growth in the elecronics industry. In the the "Asia and Australia" region, turnover increased from 44 million Euros in 2009 to 59.7 million in 2010, an increase of 35.6 percent. "This positive development shows us that using our own sales subsidiaries on the ground was the right strategic decision," affirmed Volker Bartels. The audio specialist also grew in the Americas. Turnover increased massively by 26.5 percent compared to last year up to a total of 125.6 million Euros. There was a notecibly reversed trend in the "EMEA" region. In this previously decreasing market (-2.8 percent in 2009), Sennheiser achieved an increase of 14.7 percent. In the sub-regional breakdown, Central Europe contributed excellent growth of 17.9 percent. Generally speaking, sales outside Germany continues to be extremely important for Sennheiser. In 2010, the company's export ratio was about 83 percent.
Sennheiser consolidates its position as market leader for headphones
Sennheiser has maintained its position at the top of the headphone market in Europe. According to the latest results from GfK Retail and Technology, Sennheiser is the clear market leader within the EU-16 and stabilized its value-based share of the market of 23 percent last year. The customer-oriented product portfolio, which includes many new models, played an important role in this growth. Another very positive point was the successful cooperation between Sennheiser and the sports manufacturer Adidas in 2010. One of the co-developed sports headphone models, the CX 680, won the CES Innovations Award at the Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show. In addition, Sennheiser reinforced its premium brand position in the consumer segment with "first class" models such as the CXC 700, an ear-canal headphone with Sennheiser’s innovative digital NoiseGard technology.
Professional business recovers
In the professional audio arena, Sennheiser experienced increased demand from theatre and live sound following the resolution of several frequency regulation issues. As a result, companies re-invested in high-frequency devices, significantly boosting Sennheiser's overall business in this sector. The new high-end wireless products for professional users, such as the SKM 5200-II handheld transmitter, the SK 5212-II pocket transmitter and the family of EM 3732-II receivers with higher frequency flexibility for flawless wireless transmission acheived positive sales results. The product range in the Installed Sound sector was also successfully expanded; at the InfoComm show in Las Vegas in 2010, Sennheiser introduced the ADN Discussion System, an innovative, premium product for the conference market that delivers Sennheiser-quality sound.
Investment in innovation
Research and Development (R&D) is a central component of Sennheiser's business strategy. Spending on R&D in 2010 was 6.1 percent of turnover - i.e. 28.6 million Euros. To recognize future trends and opportunities, Sennheiser runs a company-owned research facility: the Sennheiser Innovation AG in Zurich, Switzerland. Here, Sennheiser analyzes future trends that may have an impact on Sennheiser’s business and on the audio specialist’s product development. "We need to be able to react quickly to changes in the market,” Bartels said. “This is why we focus on consumer needs in the long-term and try to recognize important developments as soon as possible."
Goals for 2011: increase market share, secure manufacturing locations
For Sennheiser and its employees, 2011 will be focused on implementing the new company structure. Since the first of January, Sennheiser has been organized into three business divisions, helping provide greater market and customer focus in each respective business area. "We have developed a divisional strategy over the last few years and this is now also being reflected in our organizational structure,” Bartels said. “The company's new divisional organization will allow us to perfectly adapt our products, services, processes and especially our way of thinking to our customer's needs. This is another reason why we look at the future with optimism.”

DeLorme Unveils Plans for First-Ever Personal Communicator with 2-Way Messaging, Iridium Global Satellite Coverage, and an Android Interface

Unlike other standalone satellite messengers, the inReach provides delivery confirmation via flashing LED lights. In case of emergency, an SOS key can be triggered. When paired with an Android or the DeLorme Earthmate PN-60w, users enjoy full-featured, two-way text messaging (up to 160 characters per message) to and from email addresses and cell phones. Messages can also be posted to Facebook and Twitter.
In case of emergency, Android or PN-60w users can describe their predicament so responders can better prepare, and an ongoing dialog can be maintained for mutual status updates.
Any SOS message, whether relayed from a standalone or a paired inReach, will automatically activate remote tracking. That allows rescuers to efficiently zero in on the senders, whether they're stationary or on the move. All of the inReach SOS features are aimed at producing better outcomes and eliminating the critical search and rescue problem of false alarms unnecessarily deploying lifesaving assets.
